Wimbledon Men’s Draw Unraveled

The big four in men’s tennis still rule the rankings at Wimbledon, but the draw this year is not easy for any.  However, at the end of it, Roger should come out of it with his 8th Wimbledon and Djokovic should inch a step further towards finding his lost mojo.

Murray’s hip issue has suddenly put an asterisk on his chances and that has left the field quite wide open for Lucas Pouille, or Kyrgios to make a push into the quarters.  Possible meetings between Nick Kyrgios and Lucas Pouille, and Sam Querrey and Tsonga should produce some mouth watering tennis in the third round.

Possible third round between Medvedev and Wawrinka should be a good test of Wawrinka’s form on grass and the fourth round between Wawrinka and Tsonga should make for some serious nail biting action.

First Quarter:  Stan Wawrinka over Lucas Pouille

The 2nd half on top is headed by Nadal.  However, Nadal may have a tough third round against Kachanov and find it even tougher against Muller in the fourth if both make it that far.  Expect Muller to bombard Nadal with aces but Nadal should, on paper at least, survive his way out of it.

Cilic seems to be in form and should be able to take out Nishikori in the fourth round and could meet Nadal in the quarters.   If they meet, we expect Cilic to win that encounter as Nadal’s current level, by his own admission, is not enough to compete the way he’d want in Wimbledon.

Second Quarter:  Marin Cilic over Rafael Nadal

The third quarter with Federer is indeed full of landmines for him to navigate.  Roger’s very first match against Dolgopolov could be a tough one.  He could then meet the serve and volley expert Mischa Zverev in the third and will probably have Dimitrov waiting for him thereafter and then Alexander Zverev or Raonic in the quarters.  However, Roger in his current form is expected to reach and win his quarter.

The meeting between Raonic and Zverev should be worth watching and will give a pretty good indication of where Zverev really stands against quality grass court players in 5 set encounters.

Third Quarter:  Roger Federer over Alexander Zverev

The last quarter headed by Djokovic is not easy by any means where he could meet the ever dangerous Del Potro in the third followed by Monfils in the fourth.  However, Novak should get past Monfils if he is able to beat Del Potro.   His quarter final against Thiem or Gasquet could be close but we do not suspect an upset if Djokovic manages to reach quarter finals.

Fourth Quarter:  Novak Djokovic over Richard Gasquet

Semi Final:  Cilic over Wawrinka

Semi Final:  Roger over Novak

Final:  Roger Federer over Marin Cilic

You picked Stan to beat Cilic int he Semi’s and then Roger to beat Cilic in the Finals…That’s not consistent LOL!!!!

Not to mention Stan got his ass whooped in round 1.

Thank you for pointing that out. That was obviously a mistake, which has been corrected. It should have been Cilic over Wawrinka as Cilic was finally selected to move to the finals against Roger. Thanks again.
