Are we looking at Kuznetsova/Mladenovic and Halep/Pavlyuchenkova Semis?

With the woman draw as wide open as it could ever be, predicting match outcomes is quiet risky. There are just too many variables to take into account, but here is a general pattern that the women’s draw may end up playing out.

In the upper half of the draw, the main woman to look out for is Kristina Mladenovic. While she will face seeds like Cibulkova and Muguruza, Mladenovic has been having a strong season. At the same time, this could work against her if Mladenovic has peaked to early, and fizzles out during the French.  In that case Muguruza could take it all the way.

While the number one seed Kerber could make it all the way to the final as well, it doesn’t seem like she will be able to get her game together in time. In that case, the most experienced and likely player to reach the semis would be Kuznetsova.  Kuznetsova is a shaky bet as well because of her mental roller coasters. You are never sure exactly what you will get when she steps on court.

Ultimately, in the upper half of the draw we could be seeing a Mladenovic vs. Kuznetsova semifinal, and eventually Mladenovic as a finalist.

In the lower half of the draw, things are even less defined. One of the strongest contenders is of course Simona Halep. But she may have to face up and coming Elina Svitolina, and that could be one of her toughest matches, as long as Halep manages to bypass Jana Cepelova, who she lost to in Wimbledon as well. Considering the fact that Elina just beat Halep in Rome, it could be tough for Halep to make it all the way to the semifinals. However, both Halep and Svitolina are facing injuries, and Halep may be able to eek this one out.

With the other top seeds Karolina Pliskova and Johanna Konta coming into the French with disheartening clay seasons, it seems like we may have to turn to the experienced Agnieszka Radwanska, or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to take the final semifinal spot.

While Mladenovic seems to be on a more defined path to the final, our second finalist may be Svitolina or Halep, decided by what could be a Rome rematch in Paris.
