Tennis: The 2017 Paris Masters 1000 was a breakthrough tournament for Sock and Krajinovic

Jack Sock finally got his first ever Masters 1000 win by beating Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

Jack Sock wins his first Masters 1000

Sock has been a professional since 2011 and had never made it past a Masters 1000 final before. However, he capitalized on his very first opportunity to win, in three sets, the finals of the Paris Masters 1000 event.

He held his nerves even after losing the first set, and came back to from that one set deficit, to win the match and break into the top ten ranks, for the first time. “There have been a lot of firsts,” Jack Sock said in his on-court interview. “It started at the French Open with my first fourth-round of a Slam, now I’ve won my first Masters 1000 in Paris. This will be my first time in the Top ten and this will be the first time making the year-end finals. So there’s a lot going on right now emotionally and I can’t wait to enjoy it all with my team,” he added.

This was also the first Masters 1000 trophy won by an American in over seven years, and Sock improved his finals record to 4-4 because of this win. He started the week ranked 22 and ended in top 10 with a spot at the prestigious year-end World Tour Finals in London.

Filip Krajinovic now ranked in the top 50

Filip Krajinovic started strong and won the first set 5-7, but lost steam and lost the match. Jack Sock broke Krajinovic’s serve six times and had his broken thrice in return. Filip climbs to 33 in rankings, on Monday. “I was not aggressive enough. I have to be against him,” Krajinovic said. ”He started to play better and better and I didn’t serve well. It’s an amazing week with a lot of good wins. From (qualifying) I beat so many good guys, better ranking than me, so it’s all positive coming home, finally having holidays after playing so many matches this year,” he added.

Hopefully, both Krajinovic and Sock will carry this momentum into 2018.
