Juan Martin del Potro’s “Delpo-hug” worked its magic again at Roland Garros

The Delpo-hug worked its magic at the end of the second round, in the 2019 French Open, between Juan Martin Del Potro and – the super swift Japanese – Yoshihito Nishioka.

Juan Martin del Potro survived a tough five setter in the second round.

Juan Martin del Potro and Nishioka went head-to-head for five sets and were at it for over 3 hours and forty-five minutes. Yoshihito is one of the quicker guys on the circuit and a good ball striker to boot. Del Potro, the two time Roland Garros semifinalist, acknowledged his opponent’s pluck and skills in the post match interview. “He’s a tough one, for sure. ‘He has fantastic physical conditions. ‘He’s very, very fast and very solid from the baseline. ‘It was a tough match [with] long rallies, long points. ‘We made a great match, and in the end I think I played a little bit better than him.”

The respectful bromance and the Delpo-hug.

Del Potro punctuated his win by crossing over the net and gave Nishioka the trademark Delpo-hug. The post match display of respectful and friendly bromance was enjoyed by the fans, and showcased the likable and loving side of the tower of Tandil.
